Resurfacing Treatments

Resurfacers are acid based, similar to a chemical peel, but use lower acid levels.  Common resurfacing agents are pumpkin enzyme, lactic, glycolic and salicylic acid.  Resurfacers can be used alone to brighten and exfoliate, or they can be used in combination with each other for a light peeling effect.  Clients can expect a light to medium exfoliation that fades fine lines, blemishes, mild scarring, sun damage and other signs of aging.  Resurfacers are a great opinion for those who would like to even out their skin tone/texture with little to no discomfort, or downtime.

Medical Grade Chemical Peels use physician-grade chemical agents to resurface/peel the top layers of the skin.  We offer a variety of medical grade peels, such as the Jessner and TCA, to treat a number of skin conditions.  Chemical peels can be done at different depths (ranging from superficial to deep) to achieve specific results, depending on the clients individual needs.  Light peels, which exfoliate only the outer layer of skin (epidermis), can help improve uneven pigmentation, fine lines, acne and dry skin.  Medium-deep peels can target acne scars, wrinkles and smooth uneven skin texture by removing damaged skin cells from both the epidermis, as well as the upper layers of the dermis.  Deep peels can achieve the most dramatic, long lasting results, but involves significantly more downtime.  After a light peel, there may be some redness, irritation and dryness followed by scaling that ends in 3-7 days.  For medium-deep peels, there will be more intense redness (like sunburn) and possible swelling.  The skin may darken and form crust that peels off over a period of 7-14 days  revealing new, brighter looking skin.  After any peel, it is important to avoid any unnecessary sun exposure and always where sun protection.

Mechanical Resurfacing

Dermaplane is an exfoliating treatment that utilizes a blade to remove dead skin cells, as well as the fine hairs of the face (peach fuzz.)   Hair returns soft and will not become coarser because of the treatment.  A noticeable improvement is immediate with a smoother texture and a brighter appearance.  For those with sensitive skin, this is a great alternative to more aggressive treatments such as a chemical peel or microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion uses mild suction, along with specially formulated baking soda crystals that are propelled at a high speed across the skin to efficiently abrade the surface.  This results in a dramatic increase in bloodflow and circulation throughout the treated area.  Additionally, it accelerates the skin turnover rate and jump-starts the proliferation of new skin cells.  The combination of exfoliation and increased bloodflow leaves you with healthier, clearer and more youthful skin.  Microderms are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, clogged pores, rough skin texture, minor scars and age/sun spots.  To achieve maximum improvement a series of 4-6 treatments performed at intervals of 1-2 weeks is most effective.  Maintenance treatments can be performed every 4-8 weeks.  Microdermabrasions may feel mildly abrasive; intensity can be adjusted according to the clients comfort level.  After treatment, some clients may experience temporary redness.

Micropen uses multiple microscopic needles, along with a pulsing hand piece, to vertically penetrate the surface layers of skin.  This creates very small wound patterns to break old collagen chains and also trigger the wound-healing process to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin.  Clients can expect a smoother appearance with noticeably less wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.  For those with fine lines and mild imperfections results can be achieved, on average, in 3-6 treatments; clients with more advanced skin issues, such as acne scarring, may require 6 sessions.  Micro-needing is described as feeling prickly and mildly uncomfortable over boney prominences such as the forehead.  For those who undergo a more aggressive treatment, numbing cream is always an option.  Immediately after treatment, clients may notice temporary redness and swelling in the treatment area and in some cases minor pin-point bleeding.
